The Federation of Inner Planets
Venus
Venus is the closest permanantly inhabited planet to the sun, with boiling surface temperatures and crushing atmospheric pressure from the immense levels of carbon dioxide in the air. Uninhabitable and unhospitable without technology, Venus is now home to a modest population residing in domed platforms high above the surface where the domes can protect them from the harsh conditions.
The government of Venus is monarchical in nature, and the society itself is a matriarchy, with property passing from mother to daughter. What originally started as a joke by the original settlers about outdated ideas of 'women are from Venus' has morphed into an actual societal structure, though a rather loose one. Venus is led by Queen Erin, a kind but strict woman who has ruled Venus with wisdom and benevolence for 30 years.
Venus has multiple cities, but only 2 large hubs. Vulcan City is the capital, where Queen Erin has her palace. The University of Venus is also connected to this dome via a tunnel. Vulcan City is a bustling metropolis known for its tech boom and many museums, specifically science and history museums. Vulcan City is the Silicon Valley of Venus. The other large Venusian city is Eros, known for its Red Light district. Pleasure houses, clubs, bars, and various other night life activities make this city the seedy but active city it is.
Earth
Earth is much different now than you or I might remember it. Gone are the rolling stretches of green grass and the seemingly endless forests. Rampant pollution has rendered much of the planet uninhabitable by humans, though life still marches on. What humans do remain live in great domed cities, with little access to the outside world. Food is grown in special 'farm domes' where the soil and water than occur naturally have been domed and purified for human use. As one of the only planets in the System able to produce real food, these farms are incredibly valuable to Earth's economy. However, since food is hard to produce and there are many more humans than Earth can provide for, most people eat synthetic food grown in a lap and dehydrated into pellets for shipping.
Earth doesn't really have a unified government, though the UN handles all of their inter-planetary business. Instead, each domed city-state has their own form of government that can be as different from one another as Venus is from Mars. Most are some form of democracy or constitutional monarchies, however. The UN is headed by General Secretary Leng.
Mars
Mars was the first planet colonized by humans after they began to leave Earth. As such, its one of the most developed of the non-Earth planets with many more cities than Venus, and a few large commercial farm domes, besides. Whereas Venus has just the one college, and many, many universities survive on Earth, Mars has 2. Mars University and the University of Mars (MU and UM). There are also several large research facilities, and several interplanetary corporations are based on Mars.
Mars is a libertarian democracy, with a weak central government and strong local bodies. They have a President, Richard Sykes, but he serves only as the mouthpiece of the local governing bodies and their mediator on Lyra.
Bellona, the capital city of Mars, is also the largest city on the planet. President Ezobele keeps his residence here, the University of Mars is located near the heart of the city, and its food culture is unrivalled on all of the planets. Restaurants that specialize in making synthesized food you'd swear was better than the real thing, bars with special house coctails that look impossible. If you like to eat, or if you like to cook, Bellona is the place for you. On the other hand, if you like art, music, and theater, look no further than Nike. Located on the opposite side of the planet from Bellona, Nike is the closest public dome to Mars University, located a mere 3 hours by cruiser to the north. While smaller than Bellona and less politically important, Nike is the cultural center of Mars.
Lyra
Lyra is Space UN, basically. It is here that Queen Erin, President Sykes, and General Secretary Leng meet to discuss mutual business. There are, however, permanant residents of Lyra who have their own small elected council headed by Councilwoman Ezobele, who sits in on Federation meetings to argue for the Lyrians.
The GMC Territories
Leto
Leto is the home base of the GMC elite, a luxury space station with all of the ammenities, three times the size of Lyra and almost as large as the Galilean moons the people who live there rule over. They're headed up by CEO Martin Gomez, who rules over his company/empire with an iron fist. While his slaves waste away collecting resources from the moons, he has spared no expense in making sure the people of Leto are as comfortable as possible with imported natural food, lavish parties, and elaborate clothing.
The Moons
For the most part, the only thing you'll find on most of the moons is slaves. Whereas people on inner planets enjoy the domed life, slaves on the moons of Jupiter have to make due with 'tents', collapsable personal bubbles that can hold up to 8 hours of air, are self-heated, and will generally protect the user from whatever environment they're in, be it the oceans of Europa, the molten-hot, radiation-bombarded surface of Io, or even empty space. When they aren't in their environment suits working, they can be found sleeping in their tents.
Life on the moons is harsh and bleak, with almost everyone who lives there expecting to die there. Drug use is rampant and encouraged by the overseers, who believe a drugged slave is an obedient slave.
The Rebels
20 years ago, a semi-successful slave revolt led by a young girl named Gos broke off from the GMC, took their tents, and set up deep in a series of underground caves where thermal vents kept them warm, and a naturally-occurring set of geological circumstance gave them a large caver supplied with oxygen and a small bit of dry land to call their own. Since then, they've expended, having compiled quite the resume of successful raids against the GMC. They have food synthesizers, weapons, ammo, and even some medical supplies. They've also managed to set up a tent city on the dark side of Callisto from which to strike Leto.
