A War for the Heart of Our System has Begun
Character: Canada / Matthew Williams
Age: Nineteen
Gender: Male
Occupation: Student / Volunteer
Home Planet: Earth
Sexuality: Asexual
Relationship Status: Single
Appearance
Standing at a rather average height of five foot eleven inches, Matthew shares some features that his young twin brother carries. With soft blonde hair, and a slim figure, side-by-side, from a distance they look identical. But upon closer inspection, one will notice that Matthew's eyes are darker, a blue-grey hue that resembles a faint shade of purple in the right light. He wears his hair longer, and it is much thicker and wavier than that of his brother's.
He would be considered to be sporting a body structure belonging to a person being slightly underweight, when in fact he is quite healthy, and active at that. Looking rather lithe, he is known to be a bit weaker when it comes to strength, but he is a quick, reactive person, and is happy to have that as opposed to brute strength. He takes pride in being physically active, and one of his favourite pastimes is taking a short walk, music in ear.
He dresses in a rather casual sense, the typical day consisting of jeans, and a plain coloured shirt. Depending on the temperature, that shirt gets covered by a jacket, or replaced with a tank top. When required, he will dress up or dress down, but once the occasion is finished, back come the comfortable regular clothes. Glasses are always sported upon his face, desperately clinging as the sole means for his vision; without them he is rather useless. He always wears a watch as well, one of those people never late to anything, and relying on it like a lifeline.
Personality
Following the stereotypical twin standard, Matthew was always known as the quiet, reserved one. It isn't that he dislikes people or social interaction, it is just that he finds it to be draining, preferring the solitude of a calm walk, or his bedroom. He isn't a fan of parties, or clubs, or any of the fancy, fun things that typical students his age do; he would so much rather stick his head in his studies, or focus on the side hobbies he has.
That is not to say he doesn't talk, however. He will respond, and make polite talk, for it is incredibly rude to ignore someone for no reason other than they wanted to get to know you. He just has no problem sitting in silence, patiently waiting for whatever the objective may be, whilst others feel the need to break the silence. Now, get him on a subject he is passionate about, and he will light right up, suddenly breaking that silence and engaging actively. The same goes for giving him tasks that he finds to be time-worthy; he loves to help people out, and work with his hands.
To those friends that hold the place close to his heart, he will always be there when they need it most. He has a soft spot for people in distress or danger, and will sacrifice his own happiness - and sometimes safety - to ensure that they are okay or end out alright. He has been known to literally throw himself in the way of danger to help a child, or to put himself in the blame for something that would really hurt the accused. This does cause him to be used often, but it is all worth it for the times where he really helps someone.
Likes
Food.
Any food, all the food. He has such an appreciation for all of it, and is always eager to try something new that could be on his plate.
Music.
There is absolutely nothing better than to throw on a good tune, and just lay back and enjoy the sounds.
Art.
Being artistically talented and naturally observant sure have come in handy when it comes to his own personal art. He has such a love for it, that many were surprised he hadn't gone into art school.
Walks.
He finds that nothing clears his head as well as a good, long walk after a busy day. It has almost become a ritual, that is how much he loves his walks. Doesn't matter if they're short, they're blissful.
Family.
Despite living away from home, he still has a close bond with his parents. And his love for them is nothing compared to the love he has for his twin brother, the sole person he would trade everything to keep happy.
Animals.
Doesn't matter if they are slimy, sticky, smelly, or ugly, he loves every kind of animal imaginable. He's been teased in the past for being the kind of person who probably would cry if he stepped on a bug.
Children.
So curious, so innocent. He can vividly remember being young, and being absolutely fascinated by the world, and everything the adults did. As a result, he has a quite natural bond formed with each child he meets, and he is determined to show all of them that the universe isn't too bad of a place.
Home.
Whether it be his parents place back on Earth, or his apartment on Venus, he often finds himself wishing he were back home, the location that relaxes him the best.
Dislikes
Conflict.
He hates arguments, tense situations that he has no control over. His fight-or-flight response usually kicks in a little too early, and he tends to over stress in response to any elevated events.
Extreme Heat.
Whether it be a heater too strong, or steaming hot water, he is just really not a fan of things hotter than they should be.
Thunderstorms.
Carrying an irrational fear into adulthood is rather embarrassing, and he is no exception to the happenstance. He has always hated them when they appeared on television, and is terrified for the day he may physically experience one.
Death.
Even more frightening than storms, is the very thought of death. He values each and every day, and when asked anything relating to his mortality, his mind goes spinning into panic.
Large Crowds.
Preferring quiet environments, he is known to be one of those people to purposely go shopping or for a walk during the slowest times of the day; sometimes he even stretches it to the next level, and waits until night.
Weakness.
He knows all too well what it is like to be the odd one out of a group, singled out due to lack of strength or ability, and he absolutely hates the feeling that comes with it.
Sickness.
He hates the pity, the disgusted looks he gets when a cough comes on, or sniffles make themselves present. It doesn't help that for one, his immune system is crap, and for two, catching a cold isn't all fun and games.
Politics.
While he could argue his way out of an argument like no other, he actually really dislikes the whole political system, whether it be the one here, or on the next planet over. He just doesn't care for it.
Backstory
Living in a family of four, life seemed pretty normal, at least compared to what a social norm was. They had the basics and the necessities, and two parents, and that was more than a lot of people had, so Matthew never complained; even when his head was full of bigger, better things. He did his homework on time, ate all his vegetables, and all in all was a standard, typical child. He was fairly unnoticed most of the time in school or around the house, for he was fine without having all eyes on him, or negative attention drawn toward his presence for not doing something he was supposed to.
Most of his early youth was spent with his twin brother, Alfred, who was the light in his world. Alfred was stronger, faster, and always blew Matthew's mind with his vast ideas for new games they could play. Because of the mixed imaginations, they did occasionally get into some trouble, but he never minded, because it was too fun not to partake.
As the two grew older, Matthew found himself starting to be more drawn to things such as books and painting, distancing himself from fantasy make-belief and play. He was only ten when he truly sat down and put most of his focus into it, absolutely fascinated by what he could create with a palette of paint in his hands. He still did the typical things, and did well in school and activities, but his interest was fairly lost, and he often found himself daydreaming about the current book he was reading.
Twelve years old, and Matthew began to notice his brother's occasional absences. Realistically, it had been a good two months before he noticed, but he hadn't known just how long Alfred had been sneaking out, uncaught, before he had realized. He didn't say anything at first, simply watching Alfred's general mood, and daily patterns, and that was when he realized that his brother was heading out into the outside, the very place their parents and all of society warned them about.
Unsure what to do about it, and scared for Alfred's safety, he had followed one day, and became absolutely amazed by what had laid outside. Never could he have actually thought that the world beyond their day to day life was so spectacular; it was the very thing that all his books had made him dream about. And so, while he was still anxious for his brother's safety, he made a silent vow to not say a word to their parents, because honestly, he felt that it was the right thing to do. He himself didn't follow much after that first silent trip, but the awe of it always lingered within his head.
Years passed, and Matthew found himself graduating high school the top of his class, something which came as a surprise to the teen. Throughout it, when he had not been busy with side projects, or hobbies, he had been out sick a fair number, quickly racking up warnings and concerns. But, despite it, he was desperate to have good grades, so he could enter into university with Alfred, and not have to struggle to get accepted.
By now Alfred had burst his secret of wanting to do something other than the dream their parents had had for him, and Matthew was honestly relieved. He had a feeling that Alfred hadn't wanted to do law, and he was glad that his brother had found something he really enjoyed.
It was only two months after he had graduated had Matthew found himself packing up his room, and moving entire planets, over to Venus, where he currently resides at the young age of nineteen, struggling to learn the whole new lifestyle, the drastic change.

The steady beat of the current song was the only thing that reached Matthew's ears, as his mind instinctively tuned out all other sounds in favour for this very desirable tune. Eyes narrowed, focused on the table before him, he was off in his own world, mind spinning with ideas, colours, plans for the blank, white canvas before him. Never mind the fact this was the second one of the day; he was feeling creative, and he was damn well going to take advantage of that. Fingers tapping to the rhythm of the music, he chewed on the edge of the paintbrush, held loosely in his other hand, head tilted sideways as he pondered.
If there was one thing he enjoyed the most, it was days like these. Days where he didn't have to worry about school, about homework, about actual work, friends, family, nothing; this was a day off from everything society expected of him, and he felt like he had the world beneath his feet, at his bidding. It was still morning, and the list of things he had already accomplished - such as cleaning the apartment, or finishing an essay - was massive.
Finally deciding on a nice, striking orange to start his painting, he hadn't even finished his first stroke when the sound of ringing crossed his ears, startling him out of his trance-like state. Head shooting up from the page beneath him, eyes narrowed once more shot across the room, toward the black table by his couch. Of course. Of course someone had to be calling him at the one time he really didn't want to be interrupted.
With a deep, hefty sigh, Matthew stood, practically feeling the creativity leave his body as he made his way the eight steps to his cellphone. A small, blue device, it had a powerful ring to it, and he had chosen it for its functionality over anything. Despite the care he had taken in picking it out, he felt regret at this very moment for it was the single thing disturbing his peace. Especially when he caught sight of 'Work' sprawled across its display.
And so, with another deep sigh, he pushed the button that would change the plans for his entire day.
